Genealogy at KCAAH

Tony Burroughs, an internationally known genealogist and author of “Black Roots: A Beginners Guide To Tracing The African American Family Tree” will conduct a fun, inspirational program for beginners with no knowledge of genealogy research and experienced researchers who missed things along the way. The workshop will include humorous stories of research. Attendees will learn how to build a solid foundation in genealogy, how to prove their genealogy research, how to interview relatives, the right questions to ask and how to maximize a person’s memory. They will also learn the right equipment to use, and how to process information from interviews after they are collected. Attendees will also learn how to identify documents lying around the house that are valuable for tracing family history, how to handle old documents, how to preserve documents, and how family records will aid genealogy research and build the family history.

Tony Burroughs has appeared on Oprah’s Roots, on PBS with Henry Louis Gates, with Smokey Robinson on Who Do You Think You Are? And on the Discovery Channel staring in the Real Family of Jesus.
